Customer 1st wants to make you aware of an ongoing check cashing scam. Be wary of companies using some form of Customer 1st’s name or logo in a scam intended to bait mystery shoppers into assignments. The scam involves a request to deposit large checks made payable to the shopper in advance of completing the requested assignment. Customer 1st shoppers will never be asked to cash a check in advance of shopping.

Tips for Working with an Ethical Mystery Shopping company

  • Becoming a mystery shopper for a legitimate company doesn’t cost anything
  • A mystery shopping company that is on the level will not guarantee a steady job
  • Shoppers should never be asked to send the mystery shopping company money
  • Visit the Mystery Shopping Providers Association’s website (www.mysteryshop.org) for a list of reputable companies
  • Make an inquiry with the local Better Business Bureau (www.greensboro.bbb.org)

If you think you have encountered a mystery shopping scam, file a complaint with your local consumer protection agency, the Better Business Bureau, your State Attorney General, or the Federal Trade Commission.
